Confluence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers - ID. and WA. On October 10, 1805, the five canoes arrived at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers. Had the Salmon River been navigable, they would have connected with the Snake and arrived at this same point much faster. They also would have avoided the Bitterroot Mountains. Today, Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington are located at this junction.
